Here is some selected examples of what we do. Some are direct Wildcraft projects, some are from before Wildcraft came into being, and via my own consultancy work and some are where I have been a leader / facilitator / collaborator / co-designer for and with another Charity/CIC/organisation. But they serve all mark up and illuminate what we offer.

NICE: Nature Immersion, Connection and Ecotherapy.

  • NHS Staff Welfare sessions summer 2022 – 2023, ongoing, 6 NHS sites in NE England.
  • Nature Therapy sessions with referred adults form a local mental health recovery Charity in the north east.2 cohorts of 1 day per week for 8 weeks. Sensory work, health work (in partnership with health expert co-leader), arts, crafts, bushcrafts, nature conservation.
  • Forest Bathing Sessions – Chopwell Woods, Autumn 2019
  • 2 x 6 week health, creativity and nature programme John Muir awards with adults in West Newcastle, 2018
  • Earthwalks – led and delivered 50+over the last 20 years.

Arts, Creativity and Expression.

  • 3 x day sessions with Adults with a local community arts project in Chopwell Woods, summer 2021.
  • Bushbairns (family and Home Educators): 25+ x 2hr sessions over 5 years: Art and Nature, Poetry, haiku’s, ’Lost Words’ based exploration and poem construction. Rhythm and percussion, linked to bird song. Using movement to embody Ecology basics.
  • Craft stalls and activities inputs to 12+ events throughout Tyne and Wear from 2016 – 2022.

Natural Learning

  • 50+ school day visits at Thornley Woods and Chopwell Wood between 2013 and 2021, curriculum linked around Life Cycle, Minibeast, pond ecology, woodland ecology, river ecology, plant and tree ID, sensory activities, art, fire and shelter building, navigation.

  • Wildlife Group for families Thornley Woods 1 Saturday per month 2013- 2018, and Home Educators ‘Bush-bubbles’ learning programmes Autumn 2020.
  • School children and Nature: whole week programmes, Murton 2015 and Roman Road 2019. Conservation skills, sensory and craft, and art projects.

  • Staff training day Lemington Community Centre – how to use outdoors for nursery staff August 2015

Project Design and Management, Consultancy and ‘Hands-On’ Delivery – ‘Earthcraft’

  • ‘Pollinator Parks’ Community Mini-rewilding: wildflower meadows design, plant sourcing and community volunteer planting including all aftercare and maintenance BIC Sunderland and Dalton Park current and ongoing from 2018, also Darlington to start summer 2022. Several of these are also part of whole area Climate Action and Biodiversity action – eg tree planting, bird and bat boxes, green roofs etc.
  • Site visits, research and production of report: ‘NHS Tree Establishment and Advice for Biodiversity Planning with regards 8 NHS sites in Cumbria, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear January -March 2022’.
  • Project Management, consultancy, sire design, advice. Heritage Lottery Fund: Expert Advisor, Assessor / Monitor, 7 projects. Community Spaces Facilitator: 21 projects, Living Spaces Enabler, 12 projects. Local Food Assessor/Advisor: 5 projects. Euro funded Charity Sector support, Research and Environmental Advice, 50+ projects. Peoples Places Mentor/Advisor 9 projects. 2003 – present.
  • Practical focussed work and community events: Give something back reciprocal community tree planting: various sites in Gateshead, Winters 2018 – present [ongoing], Lemington Community Centre Willow tunnels and craft 2018, Nature Conservation work SaltwellPark summer 2021.
  • General conservation work as part of community projects, Forest School and training programmes from 2004 – present [ongoing]

Earth Magic (and other Earth Education Programmes)

  • Earth Magic / Greenheart Whalton School April – June 2018, lead whole programme, co-deliver.
  • Earth Magic 20212 – Co-write, design and pilot in 2012. Part of 4 person delivery team, 16+ schools programmes run 2015-2019
  • Sunship Earth, delivery team and co-leading, and part of design and support team, 5 x 1 week long residentials 2000-2008. Lake district and Northumberland.
  • Earthkeepers 10 x 3 day leading and assisting, Lake District, Durham, Sunderland. 1992 – 2012
  • Earthwalks – led and delivered 50+over the last 20 years.
  • Qualified Muir Trek Leader (2019).

John Muir Award and …

  • 2 x 6 week John Muir awards programme, local community adults, West Newcastle, Design and overall management, programme design and co-leading.
  • NVQ Nature Conservation training and assessment for Adult Trainees Groundwork South Tyneside winter 2012/2013 and BTCV trainees 2005.
  • Centra and City and Guilds NVQ training and assessing, writing and delivering In-house training programmes and awards 1991-2004, BTCV.

Bushcraft Skills and Forest School

  • West Newcastle Academy: Design and run Forest Schools Programme, including staff training for new Primary school 2013-15.
  • Forest School for Home educated Children and Parent (‘Bushbairns’) October, initiate develop and deliver at 2 woodland sites one day per week in term time, leading, admin, recruiting and family support. 2016 – May 2022.
  • Sessional leading for other local FS providers, one offs, regular programmes, family and holiday clubs, in Leadgate, Hamsterly, Prudhoe and Chopwell. 2017 – present (ongoing).
  • Foraging for Wild Foods, Plant ID for bushcrafts, navigation and field Skills, various stand alone sessions and public events, and part of other programmes, 2004-present (ongoing).
  • Family 1 day bushcraft sessions, and varied bushcraft input to summer programmes, as single Wildcraft events and other programmes regularly form 2013 – present [ongoing]. Thornley Woods, Chopwell Wood and community and schools sites.
  • Bushcraft input to schools residentials at Keilder and Hamsterly forest.
  • Regular bushcraft session for Young fathers group, Gateshead 2017-2020, including overnight /2 day residential in Northumberland 2018. 
  • Countryside Skills Youth project with bushcraft, nature conservation, and countryside skills, includes resourcing and coordination. Killhope, 2012-2013
